I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, knowing that these showrunners like to do the unexpected and don't flinch away from tragedy. And the meteor shower--gorgeous! This episode really delivered from all sides.
I hope we haven't seen the last of Sinta and Vel (I missed they were a couple in episode 5 but it was pretty clear in 6); Sinta was obviously acting out some part of the mission we didn't know, walking down to the Eye in an Imperial uniform.
Skeen's proposition and subsequent death really surprised me, in a good way--I didn't see it coming but it fit both characters. I had the feeling the rebels would win, but it did not go down the way you could anticipate it would, and this was a big part of it. I love that the mission wasn't the tidy sending-off for Cassian to join the rebellion. He's going to have to circle back to them at some point, and where he's going now is a big question mark--I can't wait for the next week's episode!
The actors are giving such good performances. And the writing is so damn good (Nemik's philosophy in particular is a gutpunch; I hope we'll get more of that when Cassian starts reading his manifesto. I also expected him to die, too, poor guy.)
Oh god, I've been comparing this to BoBF, too, and yikes. One point of comparison has been the characterizations of Boba Fett and Cassian in their shows compared to how they are originally characterized. Boba Fett seems like a new (worse :/) character, while Cassian adds to the character we know from Rogue One. I'm glad they're not shying away from his more undesirable character traits; it makes him so much more interesting. (I'm still bitter we didn't get mob boss Boba!)
