Hi everyone,
an update: I'm going to move the "chat corner" posts into an alternating bi-weekly schedule, both on Monday. That means that there will be only one Chat Corner a week, on Monday; there will be a theme one week, then a free-for-all the next one, then again a theme, and so on.
In the last few months this comm has been even more quiet than usual. And that's understandable! DW is a quiet place in general and Star Wars fandom lives mostly on Tumblr these days. But I'm starting to feel that if the purpose of this comm is to keep a SW fandom feel present here on DW, making a million of nearly-dead posts kind of defeats that purpose.
So, lets slow things down a little, and we'll see how that goes.
Also, remember that if you have something SW-related you wanna share with others - a rec list, interesting discussion topic, or what have you - you can always make a post of your own!
A few more thoughts:
First: You've probably noticed that there isn't any "guaranteed reply" policy on the chat corners. I know other DW events do that, and maybe some of you would be more likely to comment if you knew you're not yelling into the void... but to me those mod replies always felt a bit phony, even if they were well-meant. If the mod has nothing to say they have nothing to say, and it shows. It also ends up looking like the mod is offering a service in a sense, and... idk. It's just iffy.
Second: shout out to people who've been commenting week after week! And by "people" I mean "mainly
yourlibrarian" XD - I can't remember a chat corner you've missed, seriously, that's dedication!
I don't exactly think I ought to say "thank you for your effort" - it sounds as if we all ought to make that kind of effort, "work hard on your participation", as if it were a chore and oh hell no, fandom shouldn't be a chore! But at the same time, yeah, it's really impressive and it helps to keep the community alive, and yeah, I'm thankful. IDK. Socializing is difficult.
Third: do we have lurkers? If you're a lurker (a person who follows an online community but does not participate), raise your hand :D
I've been thinking that the themed chat corners might be entertaining in a "hmmm, interesting" sense - a thing someone might like to see on their reading page, but not know/care about enough to comment. Of course, I have no way to prove that theory!
Fourth: Researching the chat corner themes, I've found so many weird and interesting Star Wars stories. I admit I'm running out of steam a bit (probably obvious, ha), but this has definitely been one of my best fandom ideas.
