The way everything was set up, I honestly expected the heist to go much worse than it did - the plan did not fail, even considering the bodycount! That's kind of horrible really, but feels very fitting to the tone of this show.
I did expect Nemik, poor kid, but not Skeen, and honestly thought that either Vel or Sinta would die (very happy to be wrong). Do we know whether Sinta killed the base commander's family? I wonder whether they'll leave that open or clarify it up later.
Also, the way Cassian reacts when he kills someone not in combat, that little moment of horror and panic! That is so good. He's not doing it in cold blood and it's not unambiguously the right solution, and he knows that.
The acting, direction, and script all work together so well in this show, it's a joy to watch. (I keep comparing this to TBOBF and cringing, tbqh. Unfair comparison maybe, but god.)
I really liked how the show portrayed the relationship between the Empire and the Aldhani. This was very clearly researched (unfortunately we have hundreds of years of similar power relationships in our own history), but it didn't feel too in-your-face, at least to me.
(might have more thoughts later, just wanted to gush right away)
I thought the flight through "the eye" was gorgeous and just the right amount of thrill. felt very Star Wars with the wonder and the peril blended together
I'm on Team Killed them All too, especially given that her family was apparently massacred by Stormtroopers. No reason to show mercy to an Imperial's family if that's your backstory. Might have spared the kid and just knocked him out though.
Yeah, "killed them all" sounds most probable to me too, but I've been wondering whether they wouldn't want to keep the boy, for some angst about that Rebellion creating its own enemies too. But now that you point it out, the parallel with Sinta's family works just as well as that.
The Eye was beautiful. Given that all the side characters kept gushing about it for two episodes, I was wondering whether it'd deliver, but yep! It did.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, knowing that these showrunners like to do the unexpected and don't flinch away from tragedy. And the meteor shower--gorgeous! This episode really delivered from all sides.
I hope we haven't seen the last of Sinta and Vel (I missed they were a couple in episode 5 but it was pretty clear in 6); Sinta was obviously acting out some part of the mission we didn't know, walking down to the Eye in an Imperial uniform.
Skeen's proposition and subsequent death really surprised me, in a good way--I didn't see it coming but it fit both characters. I had the feeling the rebels would win, but it did not go down the way you could anticipate it would, and this was a big part of it. I love that the mission wasn't the tidy sending-off for Cassian to join the rebellion. He's going to have to circle back to them at some point, and where he's going now is a big question mark--I can't wait for the next week's episode!
The actors are giving such good performances. And the writing is so damn good (Nemik's philosophy in particular is a gutpunch; I hope we'll get more of that when Cassian starts reading his manifesto. I also expected him to die, too, poor guy.)
Oh god, I've been comparing this to BoBF, too, and yikes. One point of comparison has been the characterizations of Boba Fett and Cassian in their shows compared to how they are originally characterized. Boba Fett seems like a new (worse :/) character, while Cassian adds to the character we know from Rogue One. I'm glad they're not shying away from his more undesirable character traits; it makes him so much more interesting. (I'm still bitter we didn't get mob boss Boba!)
Yes! I enjoyed the whole episode but I really felt for her, trying to do her job, trying to make a difference and the indifference she had to confront.
Yeah, her efforts were earnest but with the Empire looming over.. oh dear. This was the only scene that stood out to me out of the entire show, so far.
