Welcome to this week’s chat corner!
Optional prompt
The topic for this week is “Tales of the Jedi“, the Legends comicbook series that covers the earliest era of the GFFA (not the upcoming series of the same name).
Do you know the series? Have you read it, and if yes, what did you think? If not, are you interested?

Date: 2022-10-03 06:32 pm (UTC)I confess, I picked the series as a topic because I have just finished reading it this weekend. It's... hoo boy. Very nineties comics, although I can't really put to words what exactly that means. I had fun reading it, though! Lots of funky aliens, the ancient Sith are fascinating, and I love playing compare & contrast between the Jedi Order then and in the main SW era. Also, Nomi Sunrider rocks.

Date: 2022-10-05 04:39 am (UTC)Nope, the new series has Ahsoka and Dooku as protagonists, while this is set thousands of years before the original trilogy. (Wookieepedia says 5000 to 3986BBY though how did they get the second number is a mystery to me.)
So, yeah, the stories don't seem to have anything in common. The branding on the other hand... IDK what Disney is thinking with this one. Is the title so good for marketing that they don't want to waste it on a nineties comic? They even reused the logo, just with a different font:

Date: 2022-10-05 04:46 am (UTC)It's not short, but I'd say it's shorter than most comic series runs. I've finished it in three days, I think? And that's at least a day more than it had to be because the scans I found didn't have the last issue of The Lords of the Sith for some reason (you know, the important one).
I'd probably recommend it if you want some more KOTOR backstory to play with! It made me grin when I realized I'm reading about the guys whose tombs I looted on Korriban XD

Date: 2022-10-04 02:25 am (UTC)The whole aesthetic with the Mayan/Aztec vibes for some of the outfits and covers was really cool and I definitely felt through the technology shown that this was thousands of years ago in the timeline.
Characters were enjoyable too (especially Nomi) and with the recent re-release of the omnibuses it's once again easily accessible as a few years ago you'd be paying ridiculous prices for out of print copies.
Interestingly there was supposed to be a novel focusing on Nomi called "Mandorla" coming out but it was canceled despite it being completed...let's hope for a leak one day!

Date: 2022-10-05 05:03 am (UTC)the Mayan/Aztec vibes -- that was really interesting! Especially The Golden Age of the Sith is full of that. It's very "Princess of Mars" and a tad corny (I rolled my eyes a lot at Jori Daragon's missing pants), but at the same time it finally makes things feel ancient. Compare and contrast KOTOR and TOR, which look like PT/OT despite being set thousands of years earlier.
Mandorla -- ooooooh. Oh yeah, I'd like to see that! Really curious what that would have been about, given that title. I assume not a painting of Jesus in an almond-shaped border, which is what I know that word as XD.
