Welcome to this week’s chat corner!
Optional prompt
This week’s topic, should you need it, is the X-wing computer game series, (as opposed to the book series we’ve already talked about, although if you want to tie it to the books you’re welcome). First game was released in 1993, and Wookieepedia informs me it was an overall success: critically acclaimed, financially successful, and beloved by fans.

Date: 2022-01-10 11:32 pm (UTC)I've been watching the "essential" episodes of TCW in the morning as I get ready for work, mostly to catch up on some of the characters that are appearing in the new TV shows. I don't love it--I'm really not a big fan of cartoons--but I appreciate the depth it gives to this part of the SW universe. I wish the prequels had done more of this work, and had less conversations about how Anakin hates sand :D

Date: 2022-01-11 05:45 am (UTC)Looks like I am the only one! That's terrible, I was like 10 and remember next to nothing. I even had to double-check if I played the original X-Wing or the TIE fighter sequel (I'm almost certain it was TIE).
Mostly I remember this... thing, which got shown when you died:
I know it's from the movies and/or from McQuarrie's illustrations, but my god, those nappies were a choice.
Re: TCW, I feel much the same. I've never really managed to like it as a show, but I love it for the characterization and worldbuilding it does.
It's connection to the prequels is odd, though, especially when it comes to Anakin's personality. It ties alright with Ep III, but it clashes really badly with Ep II.
...hm, apparently I have Thoughts (tm). I might take this to the Dark Side for some more in-depth nitpicking, it could get a bit too salty for normal consumption. I'll ping here if I manage.

Date: 2022-01-11 12:03 pm (UTC)OK I lol'd! Yup. Poor Mark.
Please add your dark side thoughts! Do you think Anakin's personality is consistent from II to III? Or is the problem just in TCW?

Date: 2022-01-20 07:31 am (UTC)My Anakin thoughts here. Took a while, I messed up and now my DW inbox is trying to eat me. (It's so great to have so many interesting conversations! But why does it take so much time and effort! *cries into her keyboard*)

Date: 2022-01-11 05:25 am (UTC)Er, someone forgot to make the usual link to the Dark Side post. Still there, still open to any necessary vitriol-spilling.
Self-rec thread
Date: 2022-01-11 06:11 am (UTC)(definitely not self-serving, what do you mean ;) )
The season of exchanges and holidays is behind us - has anyone here written any fic (or made any art) they'd like to show off?
I'll start:
Re: Self-rec thread
Date: 2022-01-11 11:51 am (UTC)The above are mostly gen (Lightbringer is femslash and On a Beam of Light We Walk is slash) and picked based on whether I thought they were underappreciated when I scrolled past them in the works listing. Anakin Skywalker/Mace Windu is the latest rarepair I have fallen down a hole for, but I decided to only link one of the 6 fics I wrote for it so I'd look a bit more like a reasonable sentient.
(A self-rec thread might be useful on the last week of every month or two months? In case you want to make this a common feature.)
Re: Self-rec thread
Date: 2022-01-11 07:22 pm (UTC)50 fics i n a year??? Ugh, I cannot believe you're one of those people. :P (Joking, of course, but I'm one of the very slow writers, so I'm jealous as heck.)
I had tried to encourage (self)reccing before, it just never took! :D I might try this again on the next Legends topic week, since those often end up quiet.
Anakin/Mace looks sort of bonkers at first glance, but those are sometimes the very best rareships, when you find a way how it could work. I have a few like that and they're so much fun.
Re: Self-rec thread
Date: 2022-01-11 11:11 pm (UTC)I can't wait to read Lightbringer--I'm obsessed with the summary.
Re: Self-rec thread
Date: 2022-01-11 11:08 pm (UTC)fanfic is so good for coping with the dumpster fire that is life right now, isn't it?!
LOVE your Padme/Ahsoka painting--it's gorgeous! <3
Re: Self-rec thread
Date: 2022-01-15 06:52 pm (UTC)Thanks! And about fanfic as a coping mechanism, ha, yes :D I've found that the more I struggle in real life, the more story ideas I get. The writing part is where it gets tricky, but lately it's been going really well.
Re: Self-rec thread
Date: 2022-01-16 10:29 pm (UTC)Tapping into creativity is a great feeling.
Re: Self-rec thread
Date: 2022-01-11 11:22 pm (UTC)It's been about a million years since I've written fanfic (ok closer to 15-20) and it is so fun. A number of the fanfics I read rival the officially-sanctioned EU books, honestly. I'm so glad I rediscovered this hobby.

Date: 2022-01-15 07:53 pm (UTC)Sorry for such a late reply, I wanted to watch the ep before I ask, but then life happened. What didn't you like? (I made another TBOBF thread in my journal, in case you don't want to post spoilers here)
